Well, I must say it has been quite an eventful month. Potty training is at full speed ahead and Sophia is doing great! I can’t even believe my luck. I finally got myself together and actually started working on it and having the patience with Sophia to go on this adventure. I now realize the mistake I had been making. I switched Sophia from diapers to pull-ups months ago but she still saw them as diapers not as underwear. So when I was explaining the mechanics of Potty 101 to my two year old she looked at me like I was crazy. For some reason the image of Geena Davis explaining a toilet to Jeff Goldblum in Earth Girls are Easy comes to mind. You know the part where she says, “You GOOOOO in there!” And now that I have completely aged myself I will continue with potty talk. So, we tried for a week with no success. She wouldn’t tell me when she had to go and had accidents all the time. Meanwhile, we went to her best friend Abby’s 3rd Birthday Party where of course she had a blast. Lucky for us my bestest friend Tasha is also Abby’s mother and she too is in the middle of potty training. I thankfully got some great advice from her. I told you she’s Super Mommy. First, she told me to ditch the pull ups during the day and only put underwear on Sophia. She suggested that I only use Pull Ups at night. She also said to keep an eye of her beverage consumption and put her on the potty every 30 minutes until she gets the hang of it. Funny thing is, after I had all these plans ready to go, Sophia comes up to me and says, “Mama, no more diapers!” I just about died, but I also jumped at the opportunity. The Pull Ups went out the door and tons of teeny tiny cute underwear replaced them. She had a couple accidents but understood quickly. She’s a bit of a neat freak and doesn’t like being wet. We’ve had our accidents in public places. It was a lesson learned, bring lots of underwear, a plastic bag and make sure she “goes” before and after every place. At home she has had plenty of accidents too, but it happens and I am so proud of her. She has picked it up so fast. I am truly very fortunate to have such a wonderful daughter. I am also fortunate to have a washing machine because that poor thing is getting used on a daily basis thanks to the teeny tiny underwear.
Enough of potty talk. Let me tell you about the best Mother’s Day ever! This year was extra special. Sophia is finally at an age where she understands special occasions like Mother’s Day. On Sunday, she came running to me beside her father with a card (that she signed), a blue box (you all know what that is!) and her yelling from excitement “Happy Mother’s Day!” It was just about the best day ever! We also went to the Gentle Barn up in Agua Dulce with Tasha and her family and had the best time. Sophia and Abby got to play with the animals and pretend to drive tractors. It was a great day. I just want to give a little mention to my Mother (the best Ama in the world) my best friend Tasha and all the mommies out there (and the soon to be too!). I hope you all had the best Mother’s Day ever!
Now time to plan Sophia’s 3rd birthday party….
