Now celebrating its 40th Anniversary, the Canyon Theatre Guild announces its 2010-2011 Season.  Executive Artistic Director, TimBen Boydston, said, “It is an incredible accomplishment for a non-profit performing arts organization to be producing for forty years.  Literally thousands of people have given of their time, talents, and resources to help us achieve this milestone.  We’re looking forward to our next forty years!  And we’re very excited about our new season of shows.”
The Playhouse Season includes a summer production of Neil Simon’s hilarious comedy, The Odd Couple, which will be followed by the Broadway musical comedy, Little Shop of Horrors, the theater’s Halloween offering. The winter holidays will bring the classic holiday tale of redemption, A Christmas Carol.  Spring brings more laughter with the comedy that proves that getting old can be very funny, Social Security.  The final production of the season will be the Santa Clarita premiere of Footloose, The Musical, which is based on the hit movie of the same name.
vv The CTG’s Family Season will feature the enchanting fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty in the fall.  The New Year brings another Santa Clarita premiere, the tuneful musical adaptation of Willy Wonka, based on the popular original movie starring Gene Wilder and the Oompa Loompas will delight audiences of all ages.  The third Family Season offering will be one of the best-loved stories of all time, Little Women.
In addition to the eight shows presented at the CTG’s Old Town Playhouse, the Santa Clarita regional Theatre (which is a division of the CTG) will present two Broadway musicals at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons.  The summer offering is the widely popular musical, Annie, which is based on the popular comic strip, Little Orphan Annie.  Coincidentally, the comic strip is going out of print just as the musical is coming to Santa Clarita.  Annie is the perfect entertainment experience for the whole family and brings a message of hope and optimism which is as relevant now as it was during the Great Depression.  Annie will be at the PAC on Saturdays and Sundays, from July 24 through August 15.  Tickets are on sale now, and CTG season subscribers receive a $5 discount on each ticket.
The second show for the SCRT’s season will be the Santa Clarita premiere of the sensational hit Broadway musical, Chicago, which will be here for only five performances.  See Chicago between March 12 and 20 – you won’t want to miss the razzle-dazzle!  Chicago is included as one of the shows in the CTG’s season subscription.
The Canyon Theatre Guild is continuing its policy of free theatre tickets for the unemployed.  Show proof of your unemployment at the box office and you and your immediate family will be given free tickets.  Executive Director Boydston said, “We are very aware of these challenging financial times, and we want to be able to offer a little ray of sunshine by helping the unemployed have a night out to see quality live theatre right here in Santa Clarita.”
For information on any of these shows or to become a season subscriber, call the theatre box office at 661-799-2702.  The Canyon theatre Guild is located at 24242 Main Street, in Old Town Newhall, theatre and arts district.
