“Meditation is not a way of making your mind quiet. It’s a way of entering into the quiet that’s already there–buried under the 50,000 thoughts the average person thinks every day.”  Deepak Chopra, MD

Whether you are experiencing the normal stress of everyday life or the worry and anxiety of living with or caring for a person with cancer, you can learn new coping skills.  One way to reduce anxiety and find inner peace is developing a meditation practice.  Meditation helps you connect with your own inner truth.  People in the East have been meditating for thousands of years as a ritual part of daily life.  Nowadays, doctors are agreeing that stress is a major contributor to most illnesses and that meditating, through physical forms such as yoga and tai chi or through “sitting on the cushion,” helps your body perform optimally.  Furthermore, research shows that meditation helps bring balance, tranquility and compassion into your life.
weSPARK has been offering meditation on an ongoing basis to enhance the quality of life for cancer patients, their families and friends.  Currently, the first and third Tuesday mornings of every month at 10 a.m., Sharon Earle, LMFT is teaching an ongoing Meditation workshop.  weSPARK guests are impressed with the changes they are seeing as they develop their own meditation practices.  Finding the silence within and using it to connect with yourself, your community and the Universe, meditation brings personal fulfillment, creativity and inspiration.
In June, weSPARK was pleased to offer a class in Primordial Sound Meditation, a meditation technique originated in India that uses the basic, most essential sounds of nature to help you disconnect from the activity of daily life. Susan Chapman, who trained with Deepak Chopra, MD and David Simon, MD, taught weSPARK guests an introduction of the basic principles of mediation that was hugely successful.  We are pleased to announce that Susan is returning to weSPARK on Thursday, July 8 at 10 a.m. to teach weSPARK guests about the use of mantras in meditation as well as guiding guests in a healing meditation.
If you or someone you know has cancer, join us for this wonderful meditation experience or any of our other free healing and creative programs and/or support groups.
