Local artists capture scenes of Santa Clarita Valley. Shown here are some of the great art painted by members of the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association (SCAA).
Le Chene Restaurant, watercolor. “I have been a professional artist for over 40 years in the fields of textile design, fashion illustration, and newspaper and corporate graphic design. I am proud to say that I was an advertising artist for the Los Angeles Times during that newspaper’s heyday. I received my MFA in Painting from the Otis Art Institute,” says Cecily Willis (www.cecilywillis.net).
Town Center, a 16 x 20 oil by Jane Mick shows a very romantic view from Town Center Drive towards Theater Drive, facing the Theaters. “The early mornings at the mall are very calm before the rush of shoppers. As you take a peaceful morning walk, the flowers are blooming and you can hear the soft music playing,” says Jane. You can see Jane’s art at many venues around town including the Art Walk, first Thursday of every month in downtown Newhall or www.JaneMick.com
Vasquez Rocks Getaway is a 16×20 acrylic on canvas by Lucy Medina. This location is best known for the gang of bandits who maintained a hideout in this park. Now a popular movie set location, this marvelous landscape is visited year round by tourists. Medina grew up in Texas and has always loved natural settings. Her art inspiration was family based; her favorite scenes are landscapes, and she spends much of her time outdoors chasing after sunsets.
San Francisquito Canyon was lit up by a gorgeous sunset when Olga Kaczmar captured this view. After years in advertising, Olga is devoting time to a more delightful side of art—painting landscapes, drawing horses, dogs and cats; portraits of family and friends.” You can view more of her work at www.olgakaczmar.com
You’ll meet these talented artists, and more, in person at the Art Classic on October 17, at Hart Park. This show is judged and SCAA members will hang their best works. Come and help pick the winners for the People’s Choice Awards.
