Selected works by famed painter, sculptor and physician Vladimir Iwasiuk (1905 to 1986) will soon go on display at the Santa Paula Art Museum. The new exhibit, titled Vladimir’s Visions, was unveiled during an opening reception honoring the artist on Saturday, June 5. The exhibit will continue through Sunday, August 29.
If the last name of the artist sounds familiar to many, it’s not surprising: this fine artist’s son is Gosta Iwasiuk, well-loved Santa Paula physician and surgeon, who has lived and practiced in Santa Paula for almost 40 years. For a good many of those years, Dr. Iwasiuk planned to write a book about his famous father, not only out of love and respect, but as a tribute to his father’s two great loves: painting and sculpting.
The beautifully illustrated volume is now complete, and the story of this extraordinary man’s life, together with photographic plates that demonstrate his amazing skill, is finally in print, and will be available for sale at the Museum Store. Admission is $20 for Museum members, and $25 for non-members.
