The SCV-Newhall Optimist Club for the month of July went on a hiatus and decided to take the month off for some needed R & R. With school just around the corner, we are busy getting involved with high hopes of starting a brand new Octagon Club at Golden Valley High School. We will be hoping to charter the club sometime after school begins. Hence a special request from several of the recent graduates from Le Mesa JHS. If you have a student attending Golden Valley High School, please have them contact me and we will get them in touch with several members who are working to get this club started.
Please remember to save the date, August 25 for our “Light the Night” fundraiser to be held at Caruso’s Italian Restaurant, 18340 Sierra Highway. A portion of the meal will be donated to “Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We will have fliers throughout several businesses including Caruso’s, and when you bring in the flyer and come for dinner, you will be eligible for a beautiful door prize. Join us for “Castaic Days” at Castaic Lake which will be held on Saturday September 25 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday September 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Once again, we will have our “Wheel of Fortune” where everyone is a winner. Admission is free to the event, parking is extra, and there will a lot for you to do and see. We look forward to meeting and seeing you out there.
Don’t forget “Kids Day” which is once again being sponsored by the City and Girls and Boys Club of Santa Clarita. This event is geared for the whole family and the best part, it is free. It will be held at Newhall Park from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be games, food, rides, stars from the Emmy winning show “Glee,” and much, much more.
With summer almost half way thru, our club will be back in session and our first meeting is on August 11. Since our fiscal year starts October 1, we will be starting some of our programs and hoping to unveil some new ones as well. We are still looking for some new members, so come on down and join us on August 11.
