Soroptimist International of Santa Clarita Valley held its new officer installation on June 30 at the beautiful home of Bob and Soroptimist member, Diane Benjamin, in Sand Canyon. More than 50 guests including club members, Soroptimist guests and local dignitaries witnessed the swearing in of the club’s new Board of Directors.
Donna Kreutz will continue to lead the club as President. Donna assumed the leadership role last October when the reigning President stepped down from the position. Local representatives from State and County offices as well as City Council member, Bob Kellar, bestowed honors on Donna for her service to the club and community for taking over the role and continuing to guide the club through the remainder of the 2009-2010 club year. Gail Rocco-Mack, Past President, read a special commendation from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger recognizing the efforts put forth by Donna in her role as President.
Each year, the President chooses a theme for the club. Donna’s theme for the coming year is “Turning Passion into Action” and the swearing in ceremonies saw each of the Directors identified with a female action hero. From Wonder Woman to Ms. Marvel to the Pink Power Ranger, each Director was presented with a framed image of each of the action women. Donna explained that while the role of Soroptimist is indeed a serious one, it is also important for members to enjoy their service, and humor and having fun play a large part in the success of the organization.
Soroptimist International Camino Real Region Governor, Cheri Fleming, installed the 2010-2011 Board of Directors which included Sandi Naba-President-Elect, Sharyn Buncick-Vice President Ways, Kathy Rutherford-Vice President Means, Cyndi Diaz-Treasurer, Ivonne Shimizu-Recording Secretary, Diane Benjamin-Corresponding Secretary, Wendy Smith-Director Two Year and Ilene Glickstein -Director Two Years. Lori Hollister will continue her role as the club Parliamentarian.
The club is looking forward to carrying out the stated mission of the International organization while continuing its commitment to Santa Clarita Valley and its citizens.
