Many of us don’t feel like always smiling because our teeth aren’t the whitest they could be but nowadays it is so easy to have that perfect smile with Zoom Whitening.  Zoom is a tooth whitening process that is widely used throughout the world to lighten discoloration of enamel and dentin.  Our teeth may become discolored due to drinking coffee, teas, colas, and red wine.  And, as we age the aging process can also stain and darken your teeth.
Using the Zoom in-office tooth whitening process is easy with the Advanced Power Chairside Lamp as it helps to accelerate the whitening process as the hydrogen peroxide is broken down; oxygen enters the teeth enamel and dentin to clean out the stains leaving the structure of your teeth unchanged.
This process takes about an hour in the office but it is recommended to have your teeth cleaned prior to the procedure.
The Zoom procedure begins with a short preparation that helps to cover the lips and gums, leaving your teeth exposed.  Your dentist or their dental assistant will then apply the Zoom hydrogen peroxide whitening gel, which works in unison with the Zoom light to help penetrate the teeth and to break up the stains and any discoloration.  The gel will remain in place for 15 minutes while the light is activated and during this time you are able to relax, watch television or listen to music.
The gel will be applied for a total of three or four times in 15-minute sessions of light activation resulting in a total treatment time of 45 to 60 minutes.  Immediately afterward, a sensitivity-reducing fluoride paste gel is applied to the teeth.
To help you maintain your beautiful whitened teeth you will be given a Zoom home use touch-up kit, including custom-fitted whitening trays.  As in any procedure, sensitivity during treatment may occur in some patients and rarely, tingling may be experienced immediately after the procedure but it always dissipates.
Zoom whitening is not recommended for children under 13 years of age or for pregnant or lactating women.  Also, it is important to remember that whitening treatments may not be as effective for some people as it is for others, that is why it is recommended to have a consultation with your dentist to determine if Zoom whitening is right for you.
