There are many options to keep your pool a safe place for your children.  There are many pool safety alarms including ones such as the Safety Turtle where a child wears the alarm on their wrist and if the child falls or ventures into the water an alarm will sound.  This device can also be used on your pet as a collar.  There are also underwater wave detectors and an eye alarm that warns when an object comes near the pool.
Gate alarms are mounted directly on the pool’s gate with a magnetic switch.  These activate when the gate is opened.  This is a fairly inexpensive safety feature.  Since these are battery operated, they are not completely dependable.  Door alarms are the most common of safety.  These are also inexpensive like the gate alarms.  However, the pitch of the alarm can be limited.  There are other safety alarms such as perimeter alarms, voice alarms, and fence and wall passive infra-red motion detectors.  Of course one of the most highly recommended is pool safety fencing.  Pool safety fencing can also be combined with a number of other deterrents.
When deciding upon safety for your pool, you will want to compare features, price and reliability.  All forms of devices have pros and cons.  Consider the power source or sources, the fail-safes and the potential for inadvertently disarming a system.
And most important of all is to know this: The highest form of safety is parental guidance and vigilance.  Never leave your child unattended.
