Summer’s over, fall is here, and the holiday season that starts with Halloween, then Thanksgiving, then moves to Chanukah and Christmas unfold. For some children who are not able to share the holidays with their parents, it is a critical time with intense emotions. What may appear to be a pleasant situation can suddenly turn into something painful and sad. Holidays remind certain children that they are not as lucky as other children who have forever families. Though children in foster care and pre-adoption fully celebrate customs and traditions with newly established families, they still remain vulnerable to feelings of loss and abandonment. Let’s all remember that the hullabaloo of holidays isn’t the same for everyone.
You can be of help to these children by considering how to make the holidays especially meaningful. Please consider calling us to see how you can donate a special gift to a child in care that reflects who they are and what they really like.
We are planning harvest and holiday events for Inner Circle’s foster families and children and would welcome qualified volunteers to share in the festivities.
