With the holidays coming up, many of us will be gathering with our friends and family. Although we cannot cover all of the safety issues that can affect us during the holidays, we would like to remind our customers that there are some simple safety measures everyone should take.
Firearms should be locked away in an approved safe or be cable locked and placed away from prying eyes and little hands. It is also a good idea to store ammunition separately from firearms. Education of firearms, like anything else, is still the best prevention of accidents.
For many of us, the holidays bring lifted spirits, great memories and the exchanging of gifts. For others however, it is a time to commit crimes – home invasion robberies. If you place a Christmas tree and gifts by a window, you are potentially inviting unwelcome guests. None of us want to sacrifice our holiday traditions; however we can reduce our risk from robbery by taking some simple precautions. Here are a few: do not place presents under the tree until Christmas Eve, lock windows and doors, turn on the alarm, close blinds when away from home, tell neighbors about travel plans, have USPS hold your mail, pick up newspapers, leave a light on in the residence, have automatic lights and/or television turned on and off to make it appear someone is home, or simply have someone house sit for you.
Other things you can do to make for a safer holiday season: use newer decorative lights, don’t overload an outlet, use appropriate lights for both indoor and outdoor, check to make sure lights are not over heating, water the tree, discard the tree when it’s dry, keep approved A-B-C fire extinguishers nearby; while cooking, keep a damp cloth nearby which can be placed over a grease pan should it erupt into flames.
While shopping, think about your surroundings. Malls and parking lots will be extra crowded. Criminals will be out. Lock your cars. Place packages in the trunk and not where they can be seen by others. Park beneath good lighting. Ladies, don’t park or approach your car next to vans and don’t hesitate to ask security to escort you if you feel uneasy about it or if it is dark.
Here’s to a happy and safe holiday season. For more information, call 661-257-1406, visit www.cobratactical.com, or check out our store.
