I cannot confirm this but I suspect that many folks eat fast food or dine out often.  We all know the hazards of eating fast food but there might be a misconception that the food you eat at “chain” type restaurants is better than fast food.
Let’s talk about salads, which most people assume are the most healthy menu items you can order.  At Chili’s, for example, the Chicken Caesar Salad has 1,010 calories with 684 from fat (76 percent) and 1,910 mg of salt.  The Southwest Cobb has 970 calories, 540 grams of fat (55 percent fat) and 2590 mg of sodium.  McDonald’s Chicken Caesar salad only has 410 calories, 230 from fat, and 1,490 mg of sodium.  McDonalds’ Southwest Grilled Chicken Salad has 420 calories, 130 calories from fat with 1,420 mg of sodium.
If you doubled the size of the Southwest Grilled Chicken Salad at McDonalds, it still has less calories and less calories from fat than that of Chili’s, although the sodium is less at Chili’s at 1,910 versus almost 3,000 from McDonalds.
One teaspoon of salt has 2,300 mg of sodium.  In one Chili’s salad, you may be eating almost a teaspoon of salt!
I recently read an article that says that nutritional information from chain restaurants can be highly inaccurate.  The analysis of nutritional information is probably taken based on the master recipe the restaurants use at their home office but the practice of preparing the food in the individual restaurants is much different.  How do you know that the restaurant is using two dollops of salad dressing when they should be using one?
If you eat at McDonalds or Chili’s once a month, it is no big deal, right?  But most families are eating at these restaurants twice or more times a week.
At Dawn’s Dinners, Inc. both the individual meals, those for families and through our catering are made with fresh produce, and organic products whenever possible.  We take time to shop for the highest quality products at the most competitive prices.  We shop at four to six stores a week to find the products that will suit our recipes and clientele.
I bet you didn’t think you could afford a chef that customizes meals for you, your family, your business or your next party!
