The Fillmore & Western Railway is a working railroad, privately owned and is a collection of lovingly restored dining cars, flat cars, dance cars, a gift shop inside a boxcar, cabooses, and a variety of diesel engines. Excursion trains operate year-round with weekly three hour excursions each weekend that travel through the Ventura County landscape of orange, lemon and avocado orchards. A leisurely trip from the origination point in Fillmore to the town of Santa Paula is a step back in time to the 1930s, 40s and 50s. First stop is at Loose Caboose Garden Center, located on Highway 126, just east of Santa Paula then enjoy a one and a half hour layover in historic downtown Santa Paula, where you can view excellent murals depicting the areas history or visit the wonderful Santa Paula Art Museum or California Oil Museum, before the return trip. This is a special family event.
