Award-winning artist in figurative art, Julie Snyder, will demonstrate on January 17, 2011, 6:30 p.m., at the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association (SCAA) monthly meeting, according to Lisa Barr, program coordinator.
A native of Scotland, artist Snyder studied drawing and painting at the Glasgow School of Art. Snyder’s career spanned both sides of the Atlantic and included several years in Spain. She forged her craft as an illustrator in advertising, publishing and the motion picture industry, including Warner Bros.
“I find my subjects and bring them into the studio to model. I love to recreate an impressionistic environment on the canvas that suggests a story,” said Snyder. Painting wet on wet with a balance of loose and tight brushwork, she uses color and light to create interest and focus. Her paint quality is expressionistic as she captures the essential mood and gestures of her subjects.
Segil Fine Art gallery and DanielakArt co-curated her solo show Trinkets and Belles in January, 2009. Visions of Dance, another collection of work was presented in a solo show at the California Theatrical Youth Ballet in La Canada. She exhibited with The Oil Painters of America at the Waterhouse Gallery, Santa Barbara; and the Howard/Mandeville Gallery in Washington; Addison Art Gallery in Massachusetts, The Boston International Fine Arts Show, and with the California Art Club at the Ebell Club of Los Angeles. She is represented by Danielak Art of Pasadena, by Addison Art Gallery in Cape Cod and in Monrovia by Segil Fine Art. She holds workshops and teaches painting privately.
