Wow, another year has escaped us!  And, with a mix of emotions, we look forward to the New Year and all that it will bring.  Hoping, dreaming, fearing and planning, we plunge into a new year that God has given us.  As we plan and prepare, we need to remember to keep
God in our plans and to keep ourselves in God’s plan.
Listen to the wisdom in God’s Holy Word:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
Let me suggest some ways to prepare yourself as you make “plans” for the New Year.
Passion – What are you so passionate about that you must do it?  Search your heart until you discover your passion, and then pursue it with passion.
Learning – What experiences, knowledge and wisdom have you gained from your life?  What do you bring to the table that is unique to your life?  Ask God to show you how to use your “learning” to help others.
Assets – What gifts have you received from God and what skills have you developed in your life?  God has given every one of us spiritual gifts.  Those gifts give us placement in the body of Christ and purpose in our world.  Find where you “fit.”
Needs – Don’t let your needs stop you from serving – let them shape how you will serve! There is a place in the body of Christ that only you can fill!  Your weakness can become your strength when you give it to God!
Style – What will your service look like?  That will be determined by your style, your personality type, your interests, your life experiences – the particulars that make you, you!
“Without God we can do nothing, but with God all things are possible!”  So, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” (Mark 10:27; Proverbs 16:3)
Here’s to a great year with God and with you!
