Okay, it’s February 2011 and you can begin those projects on your long-planned list of home improvements!  With indications that our economic future is positive, allocate a portion of your finances, or obtain a home improvement loan, to accomplish those projects which you’ve delayed over the past few years.
Kitchen and Bath: Purchase modern countertops, upgrade the flooring, update fixtures, and install new appliances if needed.  The cabinets can be replaced or refinished, along with the latest knobs and handle styles.  Install a wine cooler or bar area.
Additional Room: If the family is more than two to three people under one roof, you may desire more space.  The average home size is now 2,400 square feet.  Your choices on how to acquire the needed space without losing any lawn area, is to go Up – Out – or re-arrange the interior walls to create living space.  Keep in mind, a new room may require a change in your roofline.
Interior Changes: Homeowners are improving the interior look by re-facing the fireplace/hearth, upgrading the stairway banister, and new window treatments. Hire an experienced Interior Designer to bring fresh ideas to your home.  Remove any acoustic ceilings, and upgrade to the latest styles in baseboards and ceiling trim.
Lawn and Hardscape: Re-scape the outdoors area that you enjoy relaxing in all year.  Springtime brings us continuous warm weather, so go ahead and shop for the plants and shrubs you want in the backyard and around the pool and patios areas.  If you haven’t a clue as to what to buy, purchase one of many books available on California landscaping.  Landscape books, or our local nursery experts will provide recommendations on the type of plants to buy, how to plant them, and what will “color your world.”  Have fun and pick wisely, based on colors, sizes, climate area, and type of hardscape that will complement your lawn and greenery.
