People think, “When I push the button, the garage door goes up and down so everything is fine!”  Not true.  Like any moving object, garage doors need to be serviced periodically.  We recommend a tune up every two to three years.  Why service your garage door and “waste” money when things seem to be working fine?  Because it can save you big money in the long run.
If a garage door is too heavy, then the weight of the door is borne by the motor which will cause the carriage to wear out, the gear to strip, or the motor to burn out, costing you much more money in the long run.  Also, when a door is too heavy, the connection point at the door weakens and sometimes pulls out.  And finally, that extra weight can cause the top section to crease, damaging and weakening it, leading to the added cost of replacing the whole door.  An unbalanced door like that can fall dangerously fast, causing injury and damage.
When this happens, all I see is the inconvenience to clients who could have added years to the life of their door with a little preventative maintenance.  That’s why a garage door tune-up is no waste of money at all.  Would you own a perfectly good car and never get it tuned up?  Of course not.  You’d be asking for trouble and expense down the road.
A properly installed garage door should last a good 30 years.  However, regular maintenance is the key to that longevity.  I’ve owned my business for 20 years and have yet to replace a door that I’ve installed that has failed under normal use.  Not one.  I’m proud of that.  A good garage door and periodic service go a long way to help you save money in the long run.  So don’t think for a second that a tune up for a garage door is a waste of money.  It’s not!
