Here are some tricks designers use to make a small room feel larger.  These are the tools of my trade.  With the use of proper fabrics, patterns and materials, I can dramatically change the look and feel of your space.  Try some of these tricks in your home!
Create a Flow: Select one or two colors to carry from one room to the next.  This leads the eye and creates the illusion of a bigger space, because the eye is not broken by a jolt of changing color.
Minimize Contrast: People think dark colors shrink a room; it is actually high contrast that is the culprit.  If you choose a color palette that is within the same range of your color, the space will feel bigger.
Push the Walls Out: Painting a cool color on the wall will make the wall visually recede, which gives the perception of more space.
Keep it Simple: It is best to avoid unnecessary details, such as fringes and trims in furniture and window treatments.  Solid silk or linen pleated draperies are understated and timeless.
Bring the Indoors, Out: Carry your décor style and color palette from inside to the patio to create harmony and lead the eye beyond the indoor.
Sparkle and Shine: Installing an oversized mirror adds extra light, sparkle and shine.
Show off Your Legs: Sofas, chairs and ottomans that are elevated on legs create a sense of light and space; and are my choice for small rooms.
Edit Down: Do not fill up every shelf in a room; leave some of them half empty and spacious for an airy and more dramatic look.  Giving breathing room will make you feel more relaxed.
Let the Sunshine In: Maximize the natural light in the room to lift the mood and expand the room.
