Being healthy means eating a good diet and exercising. We all know this should be our way of life. But it doesn’t mean that you can’t splurge once in a while and treat yourself to something sweet. You absolutely should. My motto is that we only have one life to live, so live well and enjoy yourself… be good most of the time, so that you can be bad some of the time… everything in moderation.
Take a look at me: I’m not only the owner of Kupcake Kitchen, I’m also an aerobics instructor! A total oxymoron? Yes! But it works. I workout and eat well so that I can have my little treat here and there. If you’re not into the gym thing, here’s a little statistic for you. Did you know that laughing burns an extra 10 to 40 calories per day? And, it’s an internal workout, too! It provides a great workout for the heart and your abdominals. Have you ever laughed so hard that your stomach hurts? Well, that’s why! Here’s a couple of other ways to burn a few extra calories: Instead of sitting while talking on the phone, stand and move around. And we all know to park the farthest away from our destination just to take those extra steps. Do you take the elevator at work? You should be taking the stairs. Try it for a week. See if you feel just a little bit better.
So when you burn those extra calories, you won’t feel so guilty when you treat yourself to that something special. When you do, it’s always wise to keep in mind that it shouldn’t contain any trans fats. Trans fats are known to raise your bad cholesterol level (LDL) and actually lower your good cholesterol (HDL). Kind of scary when you really think about it. Manufacturers are working hard to remove trans fats from foods, but it’s always wise to read the labels because although it may say no trans fats on the front, the FDA still allows a certain percentage of trans fats in foods while still being able to say “no trans fats.”
The FDA required restaurants to remove all trans fats from their menu in 2010. The same requirement came into effect for bakeries in 2011. At Kupcake Kitchen we have and continue to use only the finest, freshest and wholesome products in our cupcakes. Fresh eggs and milk and real butter and cream cheese. The end result? A great, made-from-scratch cupcake that you can feel good about eating.
