Though the cold air was so brisk you could feel it to your bones, that didn’t stop Santa Clarita residents from turning out in numbers for the City of Santa Clarita’s Farmers Market and First Thursday Art Walk on Thursday, February 3.  Main Street was also filled with Gourmet Food Trucks, which also brought a large crowd with them.  I could hear people talk about how much they loved the food as I walked up and down the promenade.
“The weekly Farmers Market and the First Thursday Art Walk are a fantastic partnership that strengthens the growing Arts & Entertainment District in Old Town Newhall,” said Mayor Marsha McLean.
The First Thursday Art Walk is a free self guided art walk along Main Street and includes indoor venues and several outdoor exhibition spaces.  Participating Venues featured Artist Receptions including: the Repertory East Playhouse, El Trocadero Mesquite Steakhouse, Cookbooks Plus, Canyon Theatre Guild, OutWest, Dr. Rocio Jones D.D.S., Jazmin’s Bakery, Newhall Bicycle Co. Pulchella Winery, and ROMO Cafe.
The ARTree Community Arts Center presented a fun, interactive hands-on art free activity for the whole family to enjoy.  The ARTree explored the art of “Tin Punching” by using heart shapes constructed of aluminum.  Participants used hand punch designs and added a bit of painted detail to their heartfelt creations.
“‘We’re doing it Peter,’ a quote from one of the Lost Boys in the movie Hook when the magic of Peter Pan was beginning to happen.  Last night at the Art Walk it was magic!  The ARTree was packed with kids and the streets were shoulder to shoulder with people.  The Gourmet Food trucks and the promotion from The Old Town Newhall Association was the key to what is going to be the key formula for bringing people to Old Town Newhall.  It was the first of such an event with the Food trucks and it won’t be the last… ‘We’re doing it, everyone!’” – Bob Hernandez, President, The ARTree Community Arts Center
