I was searching through the Internet the other day, and I came upon something that I felt needed to be addressed. It has to do with Internet dating. There are so many dating sites out there, and this has to do with one of them. It is a very well known dating site, but in order to be legally safe I will not mention the name. I read the article weeks ago, and will try to tell it as accurately as possible.
It starts out in the usual way, where the guy and the girl email each other a few times. They end up going on a date, and have a good time, so they decide to have a second date. A few more emails, and they set up the next date. It is on this date that everything comes crashing down. The woman never saw this coming. He physically forced her to have sex. After this very scary and traumatic experience, she went to the police, where she found out this guy already had a police record on this. She then contacted the dating site and told them what happened, and asked how a person with this type of police record could just be able to sign up like anyone else. Of course the dating site gave her the run around, like how can they possibly check on everyone’s personal status? Needless to say she was very upset with the dating service’s nonchalant attitude.
This woman has since decided to sue the dating service for failing to warn subscribers that some of them could have serious police records. So now all of a sudden this dating service is going to be doing background checks on all its members, and will document any that have police records. This is not to scare you, but just to inform you. If any of you are on dating sites, and are wondering—you should call or email them, and find out what security measures they have.
Now I believe this incident happened in another state, but it could happen anywhere. Internet dating has been a lot of fun for me, I have met some of the nicest people, which I am sure a lot of you have too, but caution should always be in the forefront of your mind when meeting a new person. So don’t be afraid to go out there and date, meet new people, try different things, and have fun. Let’s see if we can find that special someone this year. Do not let this one incident ruin your dating life. Instead, use it to date smarter, and safer.
