Croeso. (That’s, “Welcome” in Welsh). My name is Denise Carbone and I am The Welsh Baker. I’ve been making Welsh Cakes for most of my life using a recipe handed down thru the generations in my family back in Wales where I was born.
My husband Joe and I started the Welsh Baker just over a year ago and since then we have made and sold more than 125,000 Welsh Cakes. Griddled, not baked, is the traditional Welsh method of cooking that gives Welsh Cakes their unique taste and texture. Even though they have been around for centuries in Wales, Welsh Cakes are virtually unknown in this country… until now.
A quick, wholesome, natural treat. Everyone loves a sweet little something now and again but when you look at the options available, most are either super sweet or loaded down with fat, calories or chemicals. Our Welsh Cakes are hand made locally with only the finest, all natural ingredients and no preservatives. At only about 100 calories each, they are a sweet, light treat that you can feel good about falling in love with.
So many interesting ways to enjoy them. Many people, especially kids, eat our cakes straight out of the package but many more warm them eight to 10 seconds in the microwave to make them soft and fluffy. You can eat them plain or put a little butter, jam, honey or lemon curd on them. They are splendid when warmed and served with a scoop of ice cream or covered with fruit and whipped cream. Our traditional Raisin/Currant, Cranberry and Blueberry flavors can be paired with cheese and wine for a savory sweet option. One of the more inventive concoctions to try is a “Welsh Smore,” slice a chocolate chip cake down the middle like an English muffin and melt a few mini-marshmallows between the halves, cool then enjoy… unbelievably delicious!
