The trend of cupcakes continues to grow and nothing will truly take its place anytime soon, but there is another trend that is quickly becoming popular in the specialty bake shop mainstream, cake pops! Like cupcakes, cake pops are great as party favors, wedding favors and desserts, baby and wedding shower favors, corporate gifts and more. So why not complement your dessert with a take-home cake pop? With cake pops as your party favor, everyone gets to take home a “piece of cake.”
Cake pops are bite-size cakes on a stick covered in a chocolate shell. They taste more like a brownie or truffle rather than cake. They come in a variety of flavors, can be dipped in many different colors of chocolate, and can even be formed and decorated in different shapes … footballs, basketballs, baseballs and can even be made to look like cupcakes on a stick! What’s great is that cake pops are individually wrapped and can be shipped around the country, which solves the everlasting question of, “How do you ship cupcakes?” Question answered… ship cake pops instead!
Although cake pops are smaller in size, the process is not a “piece of cake” and can be quite time consuming. It requires a gentle hand to create the mixture and roll, dip and decorate each cake pop and then wrap for display. Cake pops are around the same price as cupcakes; but if you only want a small treat to satisfy your sweet craving, a cake pop might just be right for you.
