Downtown Fillmore is again host to the Sespe Creek Car Show and Festival on the 4th of July. Back by popular demand is the Chili Cook-off, returning after a seven-year hiatus. The Santa Clara Valley Explorer Post #2958 is producing the event for the first time in 2011, under the direction of Fillmore & Western Railway, who produced the event the past five years.
Pre-1975 classic cars are encouraged to enter the car show, with over 25 categories to compete in. Chili chefs are also encouraged to put their culinary skills to the test in the chili cook off. To acquire an application for inclusion in the event go to www.docstoc.com/Sespecreekcarshow. The event also features live bands, craft and food vendors and fireworks booths. There will be one-hour steam train rides during the day and a Firecracker BBQ Dinner Train in the evening. After the dinner train ride the train will park next to the Fillmore Middle School where the passengers will be treated to a spectacular fireworks show put on by the City of Fillmore.
The debut of “The Glow Train” will be on Friday and Saturday nights, July 29 and 30. The evening BBQ dinner train will depart Fillmore, heading to the Limoneira East Area One soccer fields in Santa Paula for the annual Citrus Classic Balloon Festival “Glow.” Dozens of tethered hot air balloons will be illuminated against the night sky at dark. At the festival there are beer and wine gardens, live music and a kids fun area along with craft vendors. Don’t miss this amazing train ride and hot air balloon evening event.
