Living in Southern California brings inherent risk from earthquakes.  Don’t pack up just yet.  Some of the largest earthquakes have actually occurred in the Midwest.
Cobra Tactical is presenting this overview so you can increase your awareness and chances of surviving the “big one.”  Due to the brevity of this article we will not touch on everything.
It is inevitable that more earthquakes will occur in our lifetime.  Will you be prepared?  Once the shaking starts, it will be too late to get your bare essentials together.  Have you heard of the Triangle of Life?  Where will you meet up with your loved ones afterwards?
Before the shaking starts you want to prepare some readily available Go-Bags.  These can be set up for different areas, car, work, house, etc.  What do you put in a Go Bag?  Well, that is unique to each person.  Start with extra batteries, flashlights, water canteens, first aid kit, water purification tablets, water filter, change of clothes, sturdy walking shoes, sun hat, bandanna, duct-tape, knife/multi-tool, prescription glasses and contacts, and medicine.  Advanced Go-Bags can contain much more.
Assume that communications will be down.  So talk to your family, friends and neighbors now about your plans.  This may include where to meet after an earthquake and even an alternate location if the first is not available.  Designate secure places that you will leave messages to one another if you have to leave an area.  Let them know what gear you took and what they should bring.
Before the shaking starts, know your surroundings, including the location of exits and identify potential hazards.  Identify sturdy objects on the floor (desks, tables, beds).  Avoid tall heavy objects such as filing cabinets.  Don’t get beneath any object; instead, lay (or face down fetal position) next to it.  This area generally creates a void referred to as the Triangle of Life.  Your situation will dictate your next course of action.  For instance, exiting from a tall building right away may subject you to falling debris.
We would be happy to work with you, your family, and your colleagues to go over a more detailed plan and even set up survival kits that will fit your situation and budget.  Cobra Tactical, Inc., offers a large variety of survival products.
