The computer system on your car monitors many different things but only has one light that comes on to warn you of such a problem. When the light is on or has been on then goes off, the computer system stores a code or codes for the technician to recover and view what area the fault occurred. Just because there is a code for something like a oxygen sensor for example, it does not mean that the oxygen sensor it at fault, rather it means this is what the computer is getting a bad reading on but many different things can cause this to happen.
