Halloween is coming up.  Remember to drive slowly and watch out for all the ghosts and goblins.  Parents, please check your kid’s goodie bag at each residence.  Keep your eye on your kids at all times while at events.  Take a look at your neighborhood sex offender registry.  Accompany your child or know the route they are taking.  It’s dark and drivers can’t see as well.  Kids are wearing black costumes making it even more dangerous.  Put reflectors on the costume and stay out of the street.  Reminder: some idiots still drink and drive.  Explain to your kids the difference between tricks and vandalism or they may find themselves in a real scary situation – jail.  Feed the kids before they go out so they don’t eat all their treats.  Don’t go into a stranger’s house or vehicle, period!  Stay with your group – at all times.  Know who is in your group and be able to identify them with and without their costumes.  Make sure to have a full tank of gas if travelling to reduce your chance from starring in the next horror film.  Keep your animals secure.  Weird people like to hurt animals.  Tell your teens not to change costumes and go to the same house over and over.  It’s rude.  If your child is going out on their own, give them a cell phone with your number pre-programmed.  Make sure to help your kids with their costumes.  It’s not only fun, but there are safety issues that you may find that your kid may not.  If you are carrying a prop such as a fake knife, toy gun, etc.  Make sure it appears fake and is flexible enough that it won’t actually cause injury.  Educate your kids that these props don’t appear to be props by law enforcement and that it’s a good idea to put them down if asked to do so.
Be careful and have fun.
