When was the last time you washed the car?  Did you wait until you couldn’t see through the windshield?  What about vacuumed the living room?  Did you wait until the carpet was ankle deep in lint balls.  Do you wait to wash the dishes until the kids are pouring milk right into the cereal box?  And how about the gardening?  Do you wait until the weeds are over the windowsills (like I do) before you trim things back a little?
Without regular maintenance things can get pretty messy.  Life is busy for everyone, especially this time of year as work combines with holidays making it difficult to take care of basic things.  But you know if you don’t do it things will only get worse.  An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.  This is the same philosophy we need to use for our health, too.  Do you wait to see a doctor about a pain or illness until it becomes so severe it is life threatening?  Not if you can help it.  We don’t usually stay awake for days on end either.  We sleep every night and we should try to eat and exercise, too―not occasionally, but routinely because that is the only way to truly benefit from living right.
The same is true for your mental and emotional health.  Without regular maintenance and care the mind and emotional centers of our lives can get pretty messy.  Why wait until something is wrong like anxiety or depression to give ourselves that extra boost to experience the most out of our lives; our jobs, loved ones, leisure?  Why wait until we feel confused or overwhelmed by life to talk to a professional that could keep us on track and feeling our best?
We take our mental state for granted.  If we feel good we never give it a moment’s thought, thinking that emotional upsets or mental troubles could never happen to us.  But they do, for everyone, eventually.  But if you use an ounce of prevention, maybe seeing a professional once a month routinely and more when life is difficult, then life can be good all the time.
You can be better, you can be good, you can be great.  Don’t wait another moment to experience life the way you want to.  Get in touch with your mind and your inner self.  You’ll be amazed at what you find there.
