The City of Santa Clarita commemorated the national day of honoring America’s veterans at the Veterans Day Ceremony on Friday, November 11. With this year’s event offering a special moment at 11 a.m., the Veterans Historical Plaza was filled with many residents honoring the day 11/11/11.
“Veterans Day is an annual holiday that gives Americans the opportunity to celebrate the bravery and sacrifice of all U.S. veterans.
We are proud to partner with other local organizations to honor and support the men and women who have served our country at our Veterans Day Ceremony,” commented Mayor Marsha McLean.
The Santa Clarita Veterans Day Ceremony began with a reading by J. D. Kennedy showing respect for those who are missing in action (MIA) or prisoners of war (POW). Following the reading, the City’s Veterans Day Ceremony continued with the changing of the flags by the Knights of Columbus Santa Clarita Assembly and representatives from various armed services recruiting offices.
The ceremony also included addresses by local speakers such as Santa Clarita City Council members, Captain Ed Colley, Pastor John Shaver and Navy Veteran Duane Harte, who served as the Master of Ceremonies. The event also featured patriotic performances by the Little Ladiez, who recently appeared on the Fox Show The X-Factor, and local singer Gayle La Rone.
