Local author, Brandi Junious, has recently published her first environmental children’s book titled A World Without Trees. A World Without Trees explains the effects of deforestation on animals, habitats and the environment as a whole.  The story, conveyed in a child-friendly fashion, helps kids in and out of the classroom understand the impact humans have on the environment and encourages them to preserve it.  Junious is passionate about environmental protection and believes it is a scarcely addressed topic that affects everyone.  Her goal with this book was to captivate children while educating them about something important.
Junious earned her BA in Psychology from the University of Southern California in 2008 and started working towards her Masters in Teaching soon after.  She made her venture into writing in early 2011; although she admits that at that time, it wasn’t really her intention to write books.
Junious began her writing career by publishing health and educational articles when she found herself inspired to write something that could have a greater impact. “Volunteering in elementary schools gave me a first hand perspective on the things that were and weren’t being addressed in the classroom.  Of all the important things I observed the kids learning, environmental preservation wasn’t really one of them.”  Junious believes that children should be introduced to environmentalism at an early age.  This motivated her to write a series of environmental children’s books, starting with A World Without Trees.
“This is only the first in a series of four environmental books intended to illustrate the scope of human impact on the planet and promote the conscience protection of it” states Junious. “The world we create today is the world our children are forced to live in.  Kids should understand that and know they can have a positive impact too.”  In addition to offering paperback and e-book versions of the book, Junious volunteers her time by reading the book to students and donates copies of the book to local elementary schools.  She also plans to release the second book from the series in the summer of 2012.
