In a historic move Action’s non-profit Parent & Teen Support Group Programs has created The Action Family Zone – A common gathering place for all teenagers that want to develop a stronger sense of self; by discovering passion and purpose. The Zone will open sometime in the middle of June at 20655 Soledad Canyon Road, Units 24 and 25, in Saugus. Centrally located in Santa Clarita, the facility will host a myriad of activities for youth between the ages of 13 to 17 years of age.
Quashen said, “It takes a village to raise our teens and Action has been a resource for Santa Clarita Valley teens for many years now. In addition to helping at-risk teens, we know teens, all teens, need common sense, positive experiences and qualities that help influence the choices they make and help them become caring, responsible, successful adults. I have been contemplating opening a teen service center for many years now, here it is. The Zone will play a crucial role in helping SCV teens grow, develop and move forward in their lives before they reach the danger zone.”
According to Quashen there are 40 developmental assets that comprise the healthy building blocks of development for teens. Over time, studies of more than 2.2 million young people consistently show that the more assets young people have, the less likely they are to engage in a wide range of high-risk behaviors and the more likely they are to thrive.
The Action Family Safe Zone will facilitate the following opportunities and activities for Santa Clarita Valley teenagers:
• A safe and sober hangout with like-minded people that is committed to create positive change in their life.
• A place to be inspired by positive mentors and young leaders of the community.
• A place to self-educate and heal through the various support groups offered.
• A place to learn some of the powerful life skills necessary to be successful in all areas of life.
• A place for parents to learn and discover how to be a more affective in the art of parenting, and create the family results that they desire.
Membership to The Action Family Zone will take a personal commitment by both the teen and the parent, consisting of the agreement and compliance to a program pledge and honor code by both the teen and parent(s).
