Chelsea Best received her Girl Scout Gold Award on Saturday, June 30 at the annual ceremony in Pasadena.  Her Gold Award project was titled “Beau-Tea-Ful Me.”

Reminiscing about childhood memories, the thought of going to a dress-up tea party lingered.  Chelsea spoke with her mom about what fun that was and realized that not every little girl gets to experience such a fun day.  This idea sparked her future Girl Scout Gold Award project.

She decided to spend a day with young girls at the Santa Clarita Community Center.  She wanted to empower these girls to realize the special and unique qualities they possess.  Her project centered around discussions and activities on self-esteem and the importance of inner beauty.  She also wanted a tea party complete with ribbon crowns and wands so these girls could feel special.
Chelsea met with a staff member at the Santa Clarita Community Center in September to discuss her idea.  Chelsea’s Santa Clarita Community Center Staff member became a great mentor and role model for Chelsea; encouraging every step of the way.  With the help of Albertson’s on the Old Road and Smart & Final on Lyons Avenue, her project moved forward.
After months of preparation, Chelsea’s Gold Award project took place on January 7.  She had nine volunteers, including her troop leader, Jamie Gray to help lead discussions on self-esteem.  The daylong event began with younger girls ages five to seven.  The older girls ages eight to 12 joined the younger girls for a combined tea party with games.  When the younger girls left, the older girls had their discussions and activities.
The day was absolutely perfect!  The girl’s smiles were priceless.  They grasped the message of the importance of inner beauty.  Chelsea made personalized photo frames for each girl which included a picture, as well as a personality card where they described themselves.  She is hoping this will help them reminisce a very special day in their lives.
Chelsea started Girl Scouts in kindergarten as a Daisy and has been with Troop 6962 for seven years.  She considers her fellow troop sisters her closest friends and has a special bond with her troop leader.  She will be a junior at West Ranch and is a member of West Ranch TV, NHS, CSF and the West Ranch Varsity Swim Team.
