On Saturday, July 14 Soroptimist International of Greater Santa Clarita Valley gathered enthusiastic marchers for the Fourth Annual “High Heel-a-Thon… to Stomp Out Domestic and Teen-Dating Violence.”

Teams from local companies (such as Edison, Remo, and Wildflour) and interested organizations (such as the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Home Tour) gathered in themes and costumes, along with community members who’d attended on their own in support of the event.  The award for top costume went to “Not Your Grandmother’s Corset,” while the best high heels award went to Team “Got Wilk” since marcher Ed Bernstein showed up in high-heeled patent leather boots!  Circle of Hope won for best sign, and the award for most money raised went to “Orange You Glad You’re a Woman”!
Speaking of money raised, Soroptimist International of Greater Santa Clarita Valley is proud that part of the proceeds from this event will directly support the SCV Domestic Violence Center (which was enthusiastically represented by the “Fairy Berries,” who blew wishes for good luck on hopeful attendees.  The event will additionally fund the Valley Trauma Center and Break the Cycle, who work to treat victims of violence and to inform teens of safe dating choices, respectively.
