It takes a village… This saying came thundering home on a personal level recently, and I wanted to share my experience. We had a death in the family in May, and my mother came from out of town to attend.
What I discovered was she herself was in a dire medical condition with out of control Diabetes, no circulation throughout her left leg, open Diabetic wounds on her left foot, and very close to loss of that leg or foot and quite possibly death. We jumped into action, and the medical care she received right here in Santa Clarita was extraordinary! We immediately took her to Dr. Robert Abrams at the Footcare Center, Dr. George Charnock for her Diabetes, Dr. Michael Cohen, in Dr. Wendy Clough’s office, for infection control, and to vascular expert Dr. Anthony Panasci, who performed a 10-plus hour procedure to restore circulation to her left leg and foot. The care we received at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, followed by the care we received at home by Triple RC Home Health, headed by RN Ken Skeens, was extraordinary as well.
I have had my mother with me in my home throughout this journey, and am happy to report that her recovery is nearly to the level where she can return home. I have enjoyed reconnecting with her and to see her return to health, but Mom, don’t let this happen again!
To the village mentioned above, my sincere gratitude and thanks for your kindness, expertise, and level of care that never necessitated us having to leave our valley. We’ve come a long way baby!
