At the end of 2012, some long time Newhall merchants decided to create an event to draw attention to the Old Town Newhall area which has recently undergone many visible improvements.  Pulchella Winery co-owners started an Old Town Newhall Block Party that included the merchants on Main Street between Market and 6th Street.  Initially, this cross marketing campaign included a day of shopping, drinking wine and free raffle gifts for patrons which was a fabulous way for people to see first hand the camaraderie amongst this burgeoning Newhall neighborhood.

Since the original Block Party, there have been rapid changes to Main Street and the surrounding area.  Three established businesses moved to Main Street; Luscious Soul, Ma Maison and J. Serraino plus some new businesses emerged as well: White Fig Designs (a floral company), Faking It Flawless (spray tanning and resort wear) and One Savvy Girl (clothing boutique) opened.  With so many changes the Block Party was hosted again in March with huge success.  The Old Town Trolley was added as a convenient and free means to travel around the area.  Many gifts and prizes were awarded and customers could enjoy discounts at many of the participating stores.  In all, there were 9 businesses participating in the second Block Party.
The positive energy and day of Newhall exploration has been infectious… as we plan our next Old Town Block Party we are excited to announce that we have 16 merchants participating.  The City of Santa Clarita and the Newhall Library has also been very supportive and integral in the evolution of this event.
Each Block Party has expanded and the next one on Saturday, May 18 should be over the top with many additional offerings.  The Library will have crafts and activities set up for the kids and storybook readings intermittently on the Trolley.  Participating stores will be serving refreshments, offering special promotions and there will be a passport that customers can complete to win free gifts.   In the evening there will be a live concert featuring the Shoemaker Brothers at Egg Plantation from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. (admission is free with a completed passport, children 10 and under are free).  A few surprises might be in store too… did I mention a Flash Mob?  There will also be a trolley stop at WM S Hart Park so you can see the petting zoo, take a tour of the museum plus a historical docent will ride the trolley to tell tales of Newhall.
Everyone is invited to join us for the next Old Town Newhall Block Party on Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (concert from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.).  Bring your friends and family to discover all that the area has to offer.
