Many people spend one to three years litigating their cases. That is time, money, and emotional energy that could possibly be saved. Even if you cannot solve your entire case at one time, it is possible and even advantageous to “bifurcate” some issues.
If you can agree to the division of the pots, pans and personal effects, enter into a partial judgment to get those issues over with! As a mediator, I can write up this agreement for you, send it into the Judge for signature and you never even have to step foot in the courthouse. Some mediation clients enter into two or three partial judgments, which is perfectly fine. Sometimes it is easier to break down the case into manageable “parts” and settle the issues in that manner. Judges love it if you settle nine out of the 10 issues and go to trial on only one or two issues. Not only does this make the Judge’s job a lot easier, it saves you a ton of money! I mediate cases for people who have attorneys already and for people choosing to proceed without attorneys.
