When I think of my own father I think of daddy; a hard worker who would sacrifice anything for my family, someone who dresses up as Santa Claus, a Christ-like example, and someone I would call my hero. But I know that not everyone on this earth has had the same positive experiences with their father as I have. I came across an article about a nun giving cards to inmates in a prison. One prisoner wanted to send a card to his mother for Mother’s Day so he asked the nun if she could help him out.
The nun gave the man a card and soon the other inmates found out what he was doing. All of the prisoners wanted to send their mothers a card so the nun had to contact the Hallmark headquarters to order a thousand cards. She was delighted by the response from Hallmark and the inmates so she decided to order some cards in advance for Father’s Day. The prison announced that Father’s Day cards will be given out the weekend before, and not one single prisoner picked up a card to send to their father.
This article really touched my heart. It made me realize how many people do not have a father that they can call their own hero, and I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to be a father without God, our Father, in your life. Maybe you have realized this too? Perhaps it is time for you, and your family, to find the right church for you! There are many great churches in the Santa Clarita Valley and we would love to have you join us at Newhall Church of the Nazarene on Father’s Day at 10:30 a.m. We will be having a Father’s Day picnic right after the service! Join us for a bar-b-que, games and new friends!
