School is back in session and nothing says fall like football season! Wendy’s of Santa Clarita is kicking off the school year with several local football teams. You may see the Wendy’s team serving up your favorite menu items at Canyon, Golden Valley and Saugus High School varsity games.  Serving burgers at football games is one way Wendy’s helps give back to the local community and supports local athletes.

Wendy’s sends a percentage of these proceeds back to participating schools.  And you’ll find Wendy’s of Santa Clarita on SCVTV as the Athlete of the Week sponsor, encouraging local athletes with academic excellence to share their stories with their fellow classmates and the community.
We caught up with Rob Montgomery, owner of Wendy’s of Santa Clarita. “At Wendy’s, we are proud of our young athletes and enjoy supporting their efforts as they develop their skills and grow as leaders in our school communities,” he said. “Wendy’s wants to encourage a balance between athletics, strong academics and community leadership and we are proud to find different ways to support our local youth in all of these categories,” added Montgomery.  Over the last few years, Wendy’s of Santa Clarita has raised over $20,000 for local schools.
Nationwide, Wendy’s also shows support of talented athletes through the Wendy’s High School Heisman program.  All students who excel in both academics as well as sports are invited to apply for an opportunity to win an all-expense paid trip to New York City for Heisman Weekend.  The High School Heisman searches out high school seniors who excel in athletics, academics, and community activism. Applicants must have a 3.0 grade point average, play a sport, and be a leader and role model in and out of school.
National finalists win a $2,000 donation given to the school in the student’s name, and if the student is a national winner, their school will receive a $10,000 donation.  Wendy’s encourages our local schools to nominate Santa Clarita athletes for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  Applications are due on October 2, 2013. Wendy’s has four locations in Santa Clarita and the one near Magic Mountain offers a year-round 20 percent discount to everyone who lives or works locally.
