“Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.” Dr. Seuss was an author with many quotes, but this one in particular holds true to its form. It is in our human nature to want to find all of the answers.
When faced with a puzzle, a roadblock or a difficult decision we want stability, security and all signs pointing the correct way. The problem is most of the time the signs are switched, flipped, turned up side down and hidden behind a tree. We want to believe advice, believe articles we read even believe the “five steps to success” quick fixes. We pin and save pictures, ideas, inspirational quotes, projects and organizational tools to help better our lives in hopes to gain a clearer picture. The tools we put in our belt to attain understanding do not always fix what we want it to. Truth is often times we make headway only to get more lost. But we do have tools. We have tools to help us through instability. Tools ingrained in our nature. Patience, understanding, hope, enthusiasm, faith, endurance and love. As a 25-year-old trying to establish a career and an understanding of life, I have been faced with more questions than I can keep up with. Where to live, where to go, who to be and how to learn are constant reminders of the unanswered questions we face daily. But Dr. Seuss’ words are clear when he wrote, “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And you are the one who’ll decide where to go…” We have the tools and we know what to do. When I am faced with the unknown, before I question and research I can stop and search through the wealth of knowledge I already have and humbly move toward the answers. It’s not as complicated as we think.
