Universal Pain Management, Valencia is pleased to welcome a new staff physician to our medical team.
Kevin Kohan, DO, grew up in Southern California and graduated from University of California Los Angeles with B.S. in Biochemistry with honors. He attended Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona for his medical training.

Throughout medical school his interest in the musculoskeletal system grew perhaps due to his background as a personal trainer and growing interest in sports medicine.  This motivated him to be a more active member in the sports medicine club, as he became the vice president of the club and pursued many community sports related activities.
After performing an orthopedic internship at Michigan State University, for his residency training he moved to the Bronx at Albert Einstein Medical College, Montefiore Medical Center, where he became interested in pain medicine.  Dr. Kohan finds it is very gratifying to utilize a multi-dimensional approach to alleviate a patient’s pain through therapies, medicines, complementary medicines, and interventions to help patients to become more independent. Throughout his residency, he actively pursued several interventional spine research projects.  One of the many research projects he was involved with was developing safer means of performing procedures in the spine.  Through several dissection studies they were able to map the arterial supply of the spine, an undertaking that resulted in several presentations and awards at national and international medical conferences.  Dr. Kohan has received many awards and published papers in several physical medicine, and pain medicine journals.  He performed his sub-specialty training in pain medicine at the University of Cincinnati where he performed a unique two-year training in research, and regional anesthesia.  He is also a current member of the American Academy of Pain Medicine, American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the International Society of Interventional Spine.  His interests are in low back and neck pain, joint pains, headaches, and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. During his spare time, he and his wife enjoy several outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and traveling.
