Have you figured out what makes you happy? For years scholars and researchers have noted that income, marital status, and where you live are contributing factors to whether a person is happy or not.
New findings by Matthew Killingsworth, a doctoral student of psychology at Harvard, indicate we are much happier when our minds are focused. He also suggests that it is the “small stuff,” the “everyday things” that count the most. If our routine interactions with friends, family, children, and co-workers are positive, then we are happy. If the projects we commit to engage our minds, we are happy.
After the holidays, I realized that conversations and movies with family and friends raised my happiness. I also found that spending time with grandchildren and observing their curiosity and enthusiasm for nature inspired me. Reading about India and Afghanistan has enthralled me.
Doing something for others through fostering, mentoring and volunteering is another important way to maximize happiness. When we bring out the best in others, we thrive. Consider fostering a child, and see how it increases your happiness quotient. When you see the growth in a child, you will be vitalized. The attention you give will increase your own well-being. People who contribute to others increase the number of their own positive experiences in turn making them happy. Be healthy and happy and join us at Inner Circle Foster Care and Adoption Services. See your happiness quotient soar.
