The best catch of the day during the six Fridays of Lent can be found at St. Clare Catholic Church in Canyon Country. Hundreds of volunteers man their duty stations as they assist with the 36th year of the legendary Lenten Fish Fries that benefit the needy in the community.
Beer Battered Alaskan Cod, French fries or rice pilaf, homemade coleslaw, fresh rolls, coffee, tea and milk, are all part of the traditional fish dinners that begin on Friday, March 7.
The lure is the thing…the fish fries will continue each Friday through April 11 so there are six weeks to enjoy the best catch of the day!
The food is only part of the story, as diners run into friends and acquaintances from every part of the valley and beyond. St. Clare is the place to be on Friday nights during Lent!! It is no fish tale that over 7,600 dinners were served last year!
The lure of the dessert table hooks diners looking for a sweet treat to complete their meals. The Wives of the Knights of Columbus, Mission Circle, Women’s Ministry, Cub and Boy Scouts, Youth Ministry and the Hispanic Ministry each have a week to showcase their sweet specialties. There’s no reason to go thirsty with the Knights of Columbus manning the bar!
Proceeds from the fish fries benefit the Bridge to Home, SCV Food Pantry, the San Fernando Valley Family Counseling Center, SCV Pregnancy Center, the Archdiocese of the Military and individuals who need assistance.
Dinner: 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. each Friday March 7 through April 11.
Cost: $9 for the two-piece dinner; $10 for the 3-piece dinner.
St. Clare is located at 19609 Calla Way, Canyon Country.
