How does a freshman with autism play on a varsity basketball team? How does he even get on the court, much less in a championship game?
In the CIF-SS Division VI Basketball Championship game on Mar. 8th, the Trinity Classical Academy Knights of Valencia had a comfortable lead over the Desert Chapel Eagles when Beau Howell entered the game.
Beau has autism and attends the Imago Dei (Latin for “In the Image of God”) School at Trinity.
Looking to make his first-ever basket, Beau missed – twice. But in an incredible act of sportsmanship, Desert Chapel’s Tanner Alvarez ushered Beau to the basket and gave him the ball. Beau Howell made the first basket of his life and the entire arena rejoiced with him.
That incredible moment has become an internet sensation with nearly 300,000 YouTube hits and featured on ABC’s World News Tonight, Fox Sports CNN and countless other news stations.
