It is apparent that many people are living longer than our grandparents. Associated with this is the opportunity for people to remain productive in the workforce at an older age. There are active employees who continue to work after crossing the once upon a time traditional “65 year” mark. With age can come barriers, and this is as true in the workplace, as at home.
One of these potential barriers is memory loss and impaired thinking. Add to this the possibility of an early onset of these conditions, and an individual, family or employer may find themselves dealing with something they were not expecting.
The SCV Mayor’s Committee for Employment of Individuals with Disabilities has been promoting the benefits of hiring persons with disabilities since the mid-1990’s. Of the many topics we have covered at our semi-annual gatherings through the years, this one may hit home with even more community members than usual by virtue of connection with affected friends, family, or even personal experience.
Join us for our May 15 luncheon and you will have the opportunity to hear and question two Keynote speakers who work right on the front lines with this most apropos and important topic. The Mayor’s Committee welcomes Rachelle Dardeau, MS, MSW – Executive Director of the SCV Senior Center, and Susan Howland, M.S.G. – Director of Education, Alzheimer’s Association, CA Southland Chapter, who will share their expertise and experiences.
This event starts at 11:30 a.m. (doors open at 11:15 a.m.), and will conclude at 1 p.m. It will be held at the SCV Activities Center located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway, Santa Clarita 91350. Lunch is available for $12.
Please RSVP to 661-259-0033 X500, or SCVMCEMPLOY@gmail.com., as we expect a large turnout and seating is limited.
