Nestled on the corner of 8th and Railroad, its history dates back to 1878, when cowboys and gold diggers and visitors passing through the town needed a place to stop. The bar, then known as Derrick’s Saloon, eventually came to be one of the longest running businesses in the Santa Clarita Valley.  Throughout the years and through many ownership changes, the saloon was rebuilt as the Rendezvous…what locals now know as The Vu.
If you’ve been there, you’ll know what I’m talking about.  The bar is not only a place to stop for drinks but also a place to mingle with the locals while enjoying live entertainment and down right good music.  While it may be rich in history, the number of upgrades certainly brings a modern flare to this historical establishment, including a stage, upgraded sound and lighting, private booths and a patio, complete with furnishings.  Enjoy a drink inside or step outside onto the patio, and soak up the beautiful southern California weather while enjoying a drink or two.
Whether it’s for a few drinks after work or entertainment after hours, there’s much to see and do in downtown Newhall, and The Vu is no exception.  Owner Louise Castaldo, a Santa Clarita resident herself, takes pride in her establishment, which continues to be a mainstay in Old Town Newhall with friendly service in a fun and inviting atmosphere.  “We are very proud to be celebrating our 10th year here and are always striving to bring our customers the highest level of entertainment. I believe by having such a variety it has become a fun place for a wide age range of people , everyone has been very pleasantly surprised by all the changes we’ve made.”
There’s something for everyone each day of the week.  Where else can you go and get $1 beers, music video dj’s on Thursday nights?  The Vu.
Start your weekend off right at the Vu with endless lineups of talented musicians and bands performing Indie rock on Fridays, or party it up and get your boogie on with fantastic bands playing top 40 and good ole rock & roll every Saturday Night.  Join in on a fun Sunday as dozens of professional musicians and singers share the stage for an evening of truly soulful music for the Sunday Pro Blues Jam. It just doesn’t get better than that.
Don’t forget about Monday Game Night or Tuesday night indie, alternative, garage, punk and rockabilly. Wednesday night is all electronic, with a weekly showcase of DJs mixing their own blend of beats.
See what the buzz is all about in Old Town Newhall and stop by The VU Bar & Lounge, conveniently located at 22505 8th Street in Newhall.
