Get ready for a rich and eclectic summer series presented at the Rivendale site at Towsley Canyon Park. This is fifth season of performances at the site, which began as just Shakespeare performances, and is the fastest growing festival in LA County, and the only that offers such a wide range of performances and events.
Beginning the festival is the much anticipated 1st Annual Americana Folkfest Saturday July 5, from 5 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. Emmy Award-winning TV writer turned Award-winning folk singer/songwriter Tracy Newman and her band, the Reinforcements, are performing as part of the festival. Also playing that night is John Zipperer & Friends, Wombluzzo and The Modal Tease String Band. Americana Folkfest presented in partnership between the Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival and the Santa Clarita Valley Blues Society, and is sponsored in part by Los Angeles County Arts Commission. The concert promises to be fun for the entire family. Admission is free. Food Trucks, beer and wine will be available at the site.
July 11, is the SummerFest Gala and fund raising event. This year, the Gala is honoring Supervisor Michael Antonovich and Mayor Laurene Weste, as they are inducted into the Court of the Lord Chamberlain, for their support of the arts and the festival. Enjoy dinner, wine, dessert and a preview of Cymbeline at an exclusive event. For ticket information, please visit https://lordchamberlaingala.eventbrite.com.
Next up is the free Shakespeare in the Park series with performances of Cymbeline. Considered Shakespeare’s “greatest hits” the play includes scene reminiscent of his earlier plays. The Shakespeare in the Park series is also free and family friendly.
Also in July are performances of the Kandar and Ebb musical Cabaret presented in cooperation with theTRIBEproductions, the producers of last year’s wildly successful production of HAIR. For tickets please visit the website and click on the Cabaret icon.
Rounding out the performances in July is a special concert presented by one of the oldest cultural institutions in our community, the SCV Concert Band, Monday, July 28.
Grab a blanket or a lawn chair, make it a picnic with the entire family. Food trucks will be at the concerts. Beer and wine also be available during all events. These are wonderful evenings set against the hills of Towsley Canyon.
