On Friday, May 30, eighteen year-old Kimberly Curry graduated from SCCS with her eyes set on attending Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in September 2014.
Curry has had many opportunities to get involved in various activities at SCCS. From volleyball, soccer and softball to participation in the student service group, Cardinal Tours and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Curry’s experience at SCCS is not unlike others.
“The teachers at SCCS have had an incredible influence on me,” said Curry. “The teachers genuinely want to help each student accomplish their life goals. Every teacher puts in their own personal time for each student.”
Curry has been most impacted by SCCS Dean of Women and Bible and English Teacher Mrs. Sandra Wyllie. “Mrs. Wyllie is great example of a humble, godly woman that I desire to be like. Every morning she gets up at 4 a.m. to pray for all the students. And, she makes sure her family is her first priority. I am grateful for her example in my life.”
Ultimately, Curry’s faith has been strengthened through her years at SCCS. “Seeing the love that God has shown through the older students towards me, on the sports teams and hearing student testimonies and then getting to practice that towards the younger students has strengthened my faith. I see a lot of Facebook posts of SCCS students who have graduated and are attending universities. It’s encouraging for me to see that they are still following Christ.”
The friends Curry has made at SCCS are lifelong friends. “We are all a family and are a very close knit group,” said Curry.
Curry was accepted to all the colleges she applied for. Additionally, Curry received two scholarships to be used towards her college career.
As Curry packs up her car and heads off to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in September, she leaves well prepared for college, with a firm foundation that started at home and was nurtured at SCCS.
