Santa Clarita Artists’ Association’s (SCAA) next show at the Town Center Mall gallery will be Summertime Blues with an artists’ reception on August 1.
“Our show premiered on Friday, July 11 and we invite everyone to come enjoy our Wine Reception on Friday, August 1 with food, drink, and wonderful musical entertainment” said Norma Warden, Gallery Chairperson. “We’ve moved to a spacious new gallery at Ste. 110, 24251 Town Center Drive (across from Sisley’s). Out for dinner or a movie, stop by and enjoy the art!”
Summertime Blues will showcase three award-winning artists:
An avid fine art photographer and gallery curator, Norma Warden received many awards for her work. Warden’s three-page photo spread and article, Photographing an Editorial Story, was published in the July 2013 edition of PSA Journal (Photographic Society of America). In addition to her exhibit at SCAA Gallery, Warden is showing at La Galeria Gitana in San Fernando.
A graduate of The New York Institute of Photography, Warden has over 20 years experience in creating photographic images. She is vice-president of the SCAA, Treasurer of F-Stops Camera Club, and Treasurer of Valley West Camera Club, Chairman of the Black and White Photography Division of the Southern California Council of Camera Clubs and the Photographic Society of America. A world traveler, Gary Friedman’s sketches of people, places and things find their way into watercolor works. Versed in all mediums (charcoal, pastel, oil, pen and ink) Friedman favors watercolors for their transparency and the way the paint interacts with the rag content paper.
“…plus I love the smell of wet squirrel hair brushes,” said Friedman. He earned first place in the SCAA Classic, including Best in Show Award 2012, and a feature in Season’s Magazine. “My art career started in elementary school in Cleveland, where drawings of cartoon characters won praise and commissions from classmates and relatives. Soon I was drawing on the walls of my home,” said Friedman. He apprentices with some of the best painters (such as Frank Webb, Gerald Brommer, Tony Couch, Don Andrews, Frank Eber, Alvaro Castagnet). Retired from 36 years of junior-high instrumental music, Friedman plays the dobro with Murphy’s Flaw bluegrass band and jazz guitar with the Golden Oak Jazz Band.
Past-president of SCAA and former Arts Commissioner for The City of Santa Clarita, Sandy Fisher said, “I love to catch the magic of light, form and color in nature. Whether it is the warm glow of the late afternoon sun on a mountain, the glimmer of the ocean on a hot summer day, or the deep shadows which form geometric patterns in a flower, my goal is to provide the viewer with a feeling of wonderment.” Through her many travels, she captures fascinating scenes and overlooked details, combining dramatic lighting with compositional elements involving line, color, texture, contrast, and shapes that will draw the viewer in.
Accomplished in watercolor and oils, Fisher’s numerous awards include golds, silvers and honorable mentions. When asked what motivates her to paint, she replies,”…to share the powerful awakening in my soul, which is fueled by the infinite beauty and mystery of nature. There is confirmation of the divine in the complexity of nature, with all its variety and intricacies. At the heart of creating memorable art is the ability to reveal to the viewer what wonders lie in the everyday world around us.”
The gallery also features jewelry, cards, small paintings and matted art priced under $100. Hours are Friday and Saturday 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Summertime Blues runs until August 31.
