Zonta International’s Bi-Annual Convention in Orlando, Florida concluded in July and planning for the Zonta Year 2014-2015 is in the final stages with expectations of an exciting year. Our programs, scholarships and grants that support our mission of “improving the lives of women and girls worldwide and locally” are all ready to move forward.
Free LifeForward workshops are designed to provide empowerment and self-sufficiency for women in the community.
Women can attend these relevant and timely topics that can help improve their lives. Experienced speakers present topics that support a healthful lifestyle, economic independence, and ways to handle stress and work/life balance.
The Girls Robotics Program, in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club in Newhall and Girl Scouts, is designed to foster Science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills for girls. This is a beginning group, which includes girls in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades. Zontians meet with these girls and mentor them as they begin learning how to design, build, program and operate their Lego robots. Zonta has partnered with Placerita Jr. High’s after school program to offer further development of STEM and compete.
DVCAP assists Domestic Violence victims gain confidence and become successful in removing themselves from violence. The program has Certified Court Advocates to work with clients in crisis. Advocates meet three times per week and are available to assist clients move forward in establishing a safe environment for themselves and their families. Call 661-388-0252 for information.
Virginia Wrage grants are available to women who are experiencing a mid-life crises and need assistance as they move forward with their lives. Young Women in Public Affairs (ages nine to 16) who are interested in public service careers, Jane M. Klausman for Women in Business (graduating sophomore or master’s degree in Business or related fields), from the Classroom to the Boardroom; Community Grants offered to local non-profit organizations whose mission supports Zonta’s mission.
