It’s Walt Disney’s wonderful world we invite you to this autumn for our annual gala fundraiser, Cabaret and Cabernet.
A beautiful private Valley residence is our venue once again for the event, titled “When You Wish Upon a Star,” celebrating the musical heritage of Walt Disney. Twenty-four of the singers from the Chorale will be celebrating the legacy of the ground-breaking movie man who created so many memorable musical classics through film, theme parks and now the Broadway stage.
Come join us Saturday, October 18 at 6 p.m. for an elegant dinner, silent auction, and a showcase of talent from the Chorale. Tickets are $100 and you can find more information at www.scmasterchorale.org/season_events.
From the Academy Award-winning “Chim-Chim-Cheree” to music for the Lion King, Richard and Robert Sherman, Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, Elton John, Stephen Schwartz, Phil Collins and many other songwriters have been delighting us and our children for seven decades and counting. Feeding small birds, flying kites, wishes for love–all those themes will be featured during the evening’s program.
By far the most prolific and beloved Disney songwriters were the Sherman brothers. “They’ve always been positive thinkers and optimists and that comes through in all those songs. I think that’s one reason they’ve endured all these many years,” film critic Leonard Maltin wrote of them. A young Italian immigrant named Adrianna Caselotti, whose father was a vocal coach and whose mother sang with the Royal Opera, was the unmistakable voice of Snow White—and “Some Day My Prince Will Come” is on our program. Cliff “Ukulele Ike” Edwards was the voice of Jiminy Cricket for Disney’s classic “Pinocchio.” His recording of our theme song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002.
Circle of Life, Part of Your World, Go the Distance, —and yes It’s a Small World too—will all be featured during our gala. With the expansion of our children’s choirs this year, we can offer you one more reason to support our singing. Wishing on stars may be just a wistful pastime but making music is a gift that keeps on giving. Come be a part of that rich tradition!
